Retrofit design
Surefire Management Services commissioned our retrofit design services for 166 flats across 8 separate blocks on the Kingswood Estate in Dulwich, South London.
All blocks had been similarly constructed. This meant we could approach the flats as sets of archetypes. We pinpointed 43 types
in total.
Because there were issues gaining access to some of the flats, we knew there could be potential compromises to our designs,
especially ventilation strategies and background window ventilation.
Therefore, we explored alternatives to ensure these units could still comply with PA 2035 and achieve the EPC C-rating. We altered certain layout plans and submitted additional drawn specifications to the coordinator, client and installer.
On the back of detailed surveys and assessments, we also implemented the following measures into our designs:
- External wall insulation
- New PVCu windows and doors
- New centralised extractor fan system
- Upgrades to boiler system.
We produced thermal models to cover potential problem areas, such as balconies, where the structure interrupted the external wall insulation line.
