Water Lane

about the project

Retrofit management and coordination

Hamilton First commissioned us to replace the cladding on this high-rise block in Watford.

It was a steel-framed structure with mixed façade claddings, including rendered finishes and terracotta tiled rainscreen. These needed replacing to ensure fire safety.

Working with the contractor and cladding manufacturer, we gave details for the careful removal of the suspect materials and associated insulation. We specified new cavity safety barriers, non-combustible insulation and mineral wool external wall insulation with a silicon render finish, plus new terracotta tiling.

Alongside fire safety, we also ensured that any replacement cladding would account for the structure’s thermal qualities

and thermal bridging to meet all current regulations and fit with the building’s visual character.

We coordinated with sub-contractors and surveyors to keep them informed and up-to-date with queries or requests for variations in design or materials.

Once work commenced, we were in direct contact with contractors to keep the project on track and to account for any unanticipated structural elements once the existing cladding was stripped back.
